Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!!

Very often the banks' business practices make us consider bankers are devils in disguise. Some of people have their doubts. Hopefully this photo settles the question.

Witches

Today is the eve before Halloween. Time for the witches to come out and fire up their cauldrons and brew up some magical potions.

On display

Since early Ocober these Halloweeen themed figures have been gracing a toy store's window. In a couple more days they'll give way to Santa Claus and other with a Christmas theme. Over the years the merchants have been pushing the major shopping seasons ever forward.

Treasure Island

This mall had set up a Treasure Island/Pirate theme for this year's Halloween display. The lid of the treasure chest opens and closes. A lot of this year's displays are of the inflated figures variety. The set up here has a mini-rail ride around the display area.

Desktop

Each year this dental office seems to really catch the Halloween spirit. This year, however, they had limited their displays to the front desk only.

Topless

Wednesday was a wet and miserable day. It rained especially heavy in the morning but Monday morning was worse in rain volume and gloomy sky. Yesterday morning it was cold enough for frost to accumulate on roofs and car windshields. Then the sun came out and by early noon it was warm enough for people, like this driver, to go around with the soft top down. Indian summer or another sign of environment change?

Going down

Escalator to the underground parkade. The escalator on the left is out-of-service and the normal up escalator became to the down escalator. Some shoppers were confused by this arrangement and some needed a bit of time to wrap their heads around this.

Tea from China

A tea shop inside Lansdowne Mall

Lansdowne Mall

The mall is constructed in the shape of a wheel with spokes extending from a central hub. This is the centre of the mall. It was part of Woodwards department store's extensive real estate holdings in Western Canada. And the place to shop in Richmond until the mid-80's when Richmond Centre and Richmond Mall merged to form one large shopping centre. At about the same time the Woodwards fortune started to fade until it ceased operation.

Harbour Centre

Harbour Centre as seen from the north. Without a doubt the distinctive circular top is definitely an attention grabber. The building had gone through a few reincarnations as a retail centre before settled into its present role of Simon Fraser University's downtown campus.

Getting ready

As the end of the month approaches we are seeing more and more Halloween related merchandises. This is near the entrance at one of the supermarkets. Inside is a Halloween section with candies, chip, customs and displays similar to this.

Quite amazing the height 23 stacked shopping baskets can reached.

Canuck mobile

People in this country take their hockey seriously. In some cases a bit too serious. Not saying this is the case here. However, one would've to be mighty serious in order to dedicate a car to one's favourite sport team.

A walk in the park

This lady was taking advantage of the good weather by taking a walk along the play field's track during lunch hour with Mountain Seymour, part of the coastal mountain range, acting as a backdrop.

Porsche

Heading south approaching 64th Ave. along Granville St. Up ahead a car was making a left turn which held up traffic on the left and created more congestion on the always jam packed segment of Granville. The black Carrera roared up the left lane and came to a dead stop behind the long line of cars. The driver signed and immediately hopped over to the centre lane despite heavy traffic. Anyway he didn't go too far as the light changed.

Bus shelter

This is a bus shelter in Burnaby. Compare it to the one below which is in Vancouver. Both municipalities are serviced by Translink, the public transit authority set up by the provincial government to oversee public transit in the Lower Mainland.

This eating area was set up by a bakery inside the mall. The mural and tables somewaht give it a sidewalk cafe feel.

A long way

A Quebec license plate is a pretty rare sight pn the roads of the west coast. The owner of this vehicle could be here on vacation in which case it was a long drive and an equal long one back. On the other hand the owner could've changed residency and had it shipped.

An update

The project of adding extra floors to an existing building on Kingsway and MacKay is coming along nicely. From the looks of things it should be ready for occupancy by the end of the year at the latest.

Street corner

One Sunday afternoon this street minstrel set up shop on the corner of Main and Pender, the busiest in Vancouver Chinatown. Trouble was he was directly in front and blocking the entrance to the tea shop on the corner. He was asked to move. Later saw him working a block down in front of HSBC bank which was closed.

Chairs on the beach

It has been ages since I last set foot on the West End. Was there recently. Happened to wonder along Sunset Beach and saw these chairs. Their placement and the writings prompted me to take these photos.

Harbinger of Autumn

A few weeks ago as I turned the corner the sight of this rather large leaf on top of a car immediately struck me. As luck had it there was a parking spot right behind the vehicle.
