Royal Oak
This formerly was the provincial correction centre. The redevelopment was completed in the late 1990's. It is on the north slope of a hill. The bottom portion remains undeveloped and incorporated into the Deer Lake Park.

Keeping it clean
Vancouver with the outside workers on strike for 5 weeks now one would expect the garbage bins full and spilling over at least like the photo above. This scenario, however, is not happening. Reasons being the city's salaried staff is staying on top of the clean up detail, somebody said private disposal companies have been collecting 1/3 of the garbage already, some residents are shipping theirs along with a bottle of wine to friends in surrounding municipals, and a troop of volunteers such as the one below.

The big difference between a guy and and gal show up even when riding a hog on the road. See how her outfit is colour coordinated with her bike? The best a guy would do is black on black.

Flame thrower
Crossing the street today I spotted this vintage vehicle, Ford Pinto. Very surprise to see one after all these years. A bit of background for the benefits of the younger generation, this was Ford's response to the Japanese sub-compacts that gained a foothold and started to climb the sales chart.
The car did surprisingly well despite many shortcomings including a sever
lack of power. What did it in was a series of rear end accidents which resulted in deadly fire.

It's free
Is it that people will line up for anything that's free? This is a line up for a small can, 8 oz, of Coke. Or the hot weather had something to do with it?

Reading
This reminds me of my salad day when Chinese reading material was hard to come by in North America. Unlike today public libraries didn't carried any. Most Chinatowns had one Chinese bookstore and pricey.
A ritual of growing up in North America was attending Chinese school on weekends. On these weekends some of us would dropped into the bookstore during lunch break. We would stand and read as much as possible during the 30 - 45 minutes.
